Formula 4, an open –wheel-racing series, was created by the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile) with the sole purpose of training young racers in their transition from karting to open wheeled racing. Instead of a single Championship, the series is held in many countries all over the world.

German Formula 4 & its History:

One such series is the ADAC Formula 4, which has seen its debuts in 2015. The ADAC F4 replaced ADAC Formel Masters, which ran from 2008 till 2014. Formel Masters is famous for being the stepping-stone for many renowned names in the field of Motorsports such as Formula One drivers Kevin Magnussen, Pascal Wehrlein and also Daniel Abt, racing in both Formula E and the World Endurance Championship.

2016 ADAC Formula 4 Season:

The 2016 ADAC Formula 4 season will be run over 5 months, featuring 8 race weekends, at Iconic tracks such as Hockenheim, Nurburgring and Zandvoort to name a few. In line with the inaugural season, the 2016 Championship will use a car designed by Tatuus, an Italian chassis manufacturer, along with a 1.4L Turbo Abarth engine.

Path from F4 to F1:

Formula 4 gives the young racers their first taste of open wheeled machinery. Those who make their mark, move onto Formula Renault 3.5 (Formula 3.5 V8 from 2016) or the FIA European Formula 3 Championship. Later on, the drivers make their way either to the GP3 Championship or directly to GP2, which is widely considered as the penultimate step before reaching the pinnacle of Motorsport - Formula One.
